Anna Karakhanyan, board member of the Internet Society NGO – which manages the registration of Armenia’s .am and .հայ domain names – recently visited Uzbekistan to participate in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the .uz domain.
Country code top – level domains (ccTLDs) were introduced in the early 1990s through the initiative of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).
Armenia was the first post-Soviet country in the region – after Russia – to receive the right to manage its national Internet address, the two-letter country code top-level domain (ccTLD) .am. Uzbekistan’s top-level domain .uz was established on April 29, 1995, and currently has 136,000 registered domain names.
“We place great importance on the development and advancement of domain names. We are pleased to witness the achievements of our partners in .uz and remain open to continued cooperation and the exchange of experience,” Karakhanyan emphasized, extending her congratulations and best wishes to the Uzbek partners.
In her speech, she highlighted the activities of the Internet Society NGO and its initiatives to develop .am domain. She noted that there are currently over 45,000 registered .am addresses, with 60% of the registrations coming from Armenia. The remaining 40% are from various countries, including the United States, China and Russia, with France and Germany leading among European countries.
