The global domain name market has reached another significant milestone, surpassing 401 million registered domain names and highlighting the continued expansion of the Internet’s digital infrastructure.
According to the latest Domain Name Industry Brief (DNIB), the total number of registered domain names worldwide stood at 401.6 million as of June 30, 2026, marking the close of the second quarter.
During the April–June period alone, the market added 9.1 million new domain name registrations, representing 2.3% quarter-over-quarter growth. Compared with the same period last year, the number of registered domain names increased by 29.9 million, an annual growth rate of 8.1%.
The market continues to demonstrate a well-diversified structure. .com and .net remain the world’s leading top-level domains, with a combined 179.1 million registered domain names.
While .com continues to dominate the market, the report identifies new generic top-level domains (new gTLDs) as the fastest-growing segment. Registrations in this category rose by 13.4 million, or 34% year over year, bringing the total number of new gTLD registrations to 52.9 million.
Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) also maintained steady growth. The total number of ccTLD registrations reached 148.6 million, up 2.3 million or 1.6% compared with the previous quarter.
The latest DNIB data underscores the growing global demand for digital identities as businesses, e-commerce, digital services and broader digital transformation continue to accelerate. As organizations increasingly establish and expand their online presence, domain names remain a fundamental component of the global digital ecosystem.
