Today, the Internet Society NGO, the registry of Armenia’s country code top-level domains .am and .հայ, celebrates its 32nd anniversary.
More than three decades ago, on August 4, 1994, a group of visionary pioneers established the Internet Society NGO with a clear mission: to secure Armenia’s right to administer the .am country code top-level domain and strengthen the country’s presence on the global Internet.
As one of the driving forces behind the development of the Internet in Armenia, the organization has spent the past 32 years advancing the .am and, later, the .հայ domain namespaces, promoting digital literacy and encouraging the use of the Internet as a catalyst for education, innovation and economic growth.
While technology and the Internet have evolved rapidly over the years, the organization’s mission has remained constant: to make Armenia more visible, more accessible and better connected within the global digital ecosystem. The introduction of the Armenian-script .հայ domain marked an important milestone in this journey, complemented by the organization’s ongoing efforts to expand Armenian-language content online and strengthen Armenia’s digital identity.
Every initiative, every newly registered domain, every educational program, every partnership and every international collaboration contributes to a shared vision: leveraging the power of the Internet to improve people’s lives and support Armenia’s sustainable development.
