Armenia Embraces Digital Decentralization Through Web3

Armenia has joined the decentralized digital identity movement, becoming the second country in the world to have its country code top-level domain (ccTLD), .am, officially integrated with blockchain technology.

With this, the .am domain has completed its “mirror conversion” to the blockchain, becoming the second geographic top-level domain to join the Web3 ecosystem. The first country to make such a transition was Samoa, with its .ws domain.

This technological advancement enables .am domains to connect with Web3 platforms without altering traditional DNS settings, while preserving the full functionality of legacy websites. As a result, .am domains can now support decentralized features such as NFT linking, digital wallet integration, and Web 3.0 branding capabilities.

ArmeniaDomains, GlobalR, and WebUnited are the primary advocates of this initiative, collaborating with Web3 infrastructure providers like Freename. Web3 integration extends the .am domain to support multi-chain digital access, opening new opportunities for businesses and individuals to manage their digital assets more securely and flexibly.

This groundbreaking change aligns with the rapid growth of Web3 and blockchain, signaling that the traditional domain system is nearing a structural transformation. In this context, Armenia and Samoa, as the first countries to invest, are well-positioned to play a leading role in shaping and developing a decentralized future for the internet.
