The event, held on May 8 at Seasons Park in Yerevan, gave visitors the opportunity to learn more about the Armenian-script domain and its use on the Internet. The awareness flash mob was organized by the “Internet Society” NGO.
Participants joined a puzzle-game competition and received themed gifts featuring the .հայ and .am domain symbols, including T-shirts and keychains.
The “Internet Society” NGO, the registry of Armenia’s country code .am domain, was among the first organizations in the world to embrace the opportunity to create a domain in a national alphabet. In 2014 the organization also assumed responsibility for the registration, operation and development of the .հայ domain.
For more than a decade, the organization has consistently introduced technological and governance innovations in the field of internationalized domain names (IDNs), supporting the development and wider adoption of the .հայ domain space.
Today the .հայ domain allows users to create websites and email addresses in Armenian, contributing to the growth and preservation of the Armenian language in the digital environment.
