On June 21 in Yerevan, the manager organizations of the national domains of Armenia and Russia – “Internet Society” NGO and “Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ” NGO – signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation.
The agreement aims to foster the development of the countries’ top-level domains: .am and .ru, as well as the internationalized domain names .հայ and .рф in their respective national scripts. The memorandum also emphasizes multilateral, mutually beneficial cooperation and the exchange of best practices and successful experiences in domain management.
Today, we are formally documenting the multifaceted cooperation that has existed between our organizations for decades. This memorandum opens up new opportunities to further expand that collaboration,” said Andranik Aleksanyan, Director of ISOC Armenia.
Andrey Vorobyov, Director of the Coordination Center for TLD, also highlighted the importance of the partnership: “Our cooperation with the Armenian side has always been mutually beneficial. We are confident that we will continue advancing together in the development of the Internet.
The .am domain, launched on August 26, 1994, has been in operation for 30 years and currently hosts over 45,740 registered domains. Nine years ago, the registration of the .հայ domain – Armenia’s top-level domain in the Armenian script – also began, and it now includes approximately 900 domains.
The .ru domain, introduced on April 7, 1994, has grown to over 6 million registered domains. Additionally, the .рф domain, Russia’s Cyrillic-script top-level domain launched 15 years ago, currently has around 800,000 domains.
