The 19th Internet Governance Forum (IGF), themed “Building Our Multistakeholder Digital Future,” took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 15–19. The conference attracted nearly 11,000 participants from over 140 countries, engaging in both online and in-person formats.
From Armenia, the conference was attended by Vice President of the National Assembly of RA Hakob Arshakyan, member of Parliament National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Aleksey Sandikov, along with Vahan Hovsepyan and Kristina Hakobyan, Vice-Chairs of the Board of the “Internet Society” NGO.
“Our organization’s participation in this important platform, which addresses new challenges in the digital world and strategies to overcome them, provides an opportunity to share our experiences and gain insights into global trends. This greatly enhances our ability to work more effectively,” noted Kristina Hakobyan.
During the 300 sessions of IGF 2024, digital experts, specialists, government officials, and representatives of non-governmental organizations discussed the advantages of digital technologies as well as the risks they entail. The sessions also addressed issues related to peace, stability, and the promotion of human rights in the digital age. Particular emphasis was placed on regulating artificial intelligence, addressing cybersecurity challenges, and ensuring the protection of human rights.
In line with the forum’s commitment to influencing international digital policy, IGF 2024 also prioritized the preparation of the Global Digital Compact (GDC) and the review process for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20).
