.հայ Turns 9! Traditional Song and Dance Light Up the Celebration

We celebrated the 9th anniversary of the first registration in .հայ domain entirely in Armenian, with a festive flashmob on June 7, next to the “Lernayin Par” (Mountain Dance) group sculpture.

The event was organized by the Internet Society NGO in collaboration with the Karin Folk Group.

The goal of the flashmob was to raise public awareness about the possibilities offered by the Armenian-script .հայ domain and to highlight the importance of the Armenian Internet space through national song and dance.

Eleven years ago in 2014 Internet Society NGO – the registry of .am domain, Armenia’s country code – initiated the creation of .հայ domain. In 2016 it was officially launched as a significant part of the country’s digital identity on the Internet.

Our organization is carrying out important work for the development of the Armenian-script domain, in cooperation with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and other international organizations in the field.
Currently, around 900 addresses are registered under .հայ domain.

Moreover, for the second consecutive year, thanks to the efforts of the Internet Society’s specialists, it is now possible to create fully Armenian-script email addresses – such as անուն.ազգանուն@հայ – for those who have a registered .հայ domain.
This is a significant step toward ensuring the full representation of the Armenian language in the digital environment.

The Armenian script domain .հայ not only addresses the issue of transliteration (e.g., ծաղկաձոր.հայ, քաջարան.հայ), but also ensures the representation of our country in the digital world, promotes Internet accessibility and is part of the international movement for the “Universal Acceptance” (UA) of internationalized domain names (IDNs).

P.S. panorama.am covered the flash mob with a photo report.
