The Future of the Internet: Armenia Takes Part in ICANN84

The official opening ceremony of the 84th Annual General Meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was held on October 27 in Dublin. The event brings together representatives from governments, the technical community, businesses, academia, and civil society worldwide.

Armenia is represented at the conference by the “Internet Society” NGO – the TLD manager for .am and .հայ domains – and the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” PO.

During the opening ceremony ICANN reviewed its key achievements for 2025 and outlined the organization’s strategic priorities, which include:

  • promoting digital inclusion
  • combating DNS abuse
  • ensuring effective management of root servers
  • preparing for the launch of the next new gTLD program.

In his address ICANN President and CEO Kurtis Lindqvist stated:

“ICANN continues to strengthen a global, interconnected and secure Internet infrastructure with a strong emphasis on transparency, accountability and operational efficiency. The Internet operates continuously and it is the multistakeholder model that ensures its stability and ongoing development.”

Lindqvist also spoke about the next phase of the new gTLD program, noting that its official launch is expected in approximately six months. The initiative will be an open and inclusive process aimed at advancing the development of a multilingual Internet.

Another key topic at ICANN84 is the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) process, with ICANN actively engaged in the preparatory efforts as a principal partner in technical collaboration.

ICANN84 Annual General Meeting will run through October 30, featuring more than 200 thematic discussions and sessions.
