The global domain name market continues to demonstrate steady growth with an increasing number of registered domains and an expanding role in the digital economy.
This growth extends to country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs), which collectively recorded an increase of 144.8 million registrations worldwide last year. Consequently, interest in national domain names remains strong across both international and domestic markets, according to the Domain Name Industry Brief report.
Over the past decade, registrations under Armenia’s country-code top-level domain, .am, have grown by more than 10,000. As of today, the .am domain includes over 46,600 registered names, approximately 62% of which are registered within Armenia. The United States follows with 8,863 registrations, followed by China (1,754) and Russia (1,185). Among European countries, Germany leads in .am registrations, with a total of 527 domains.
The evolution of the domain market extends beyond sheer registration numbers and increasingly reflects the adoption of advanced security and technological solutions. In this regard, the .am domain has made notable progress.
Globally, only 64% of national domain zones currently support DNSSEC, and Armenia’s national domain is among them. This enhanced security measure helps protect the .am domain from DNS data spoofing and unauthorized traffic redirection.
In addition, the .am domain has taken a forward-looking step by integrating blockchain technologies, enabling seamless connectivity with Web3 platforms without requiring changes to the traditional DNS infrastructure. This integration creates new opportunities for NFTs, digital wallets, and innovative brand-driven solutions.
