The number of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) increased by 1.4 million in the third quarter of 2025, reaching a total of 144.8 million as of September 30 – a 1% rise compared to the previous quarter. Year-over-year, this represents a growth of 4.8 million registrations, or 3.4%.
The world’s five leading ccTLDs are:
- .cn (China) – 21 million domain names
- .de (Germany) – 17.6 million
- .uk (United Kingdom) – 10.2 million
- .ru (Russia) – 6.8 million
- .nl (Netherlands) – 6.1 million
The number of new generic top-level domains (new gTLDs) has reached 42.9 million, reflecting an 8.5% increase compared to the second quarter and a 21% increase year-over-year. This underscores the rapid expansion of the new domain market.
According to the Domain Name Industry Brief report by the U.S. based company Verisign, while data from all domain zones have not yet been fully released, existing figures already confirm that the global DNS market is maintaining a steady growth trajectory throughout 2025.
