The female leaders in the field discussed information technology and success strategies in STEM fields during the meeting held in Yerevan on April 25 as part of the international campaign “Girls in ICT.”
“Women’s Leadership in STEM: Revealing the Formula for Success” attracted students from Yerevan high schools and professional colleges. The event was organized by the “Internet Society” NGO and the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” PO.
“Armenia, through our organization, participates in the international campaign “Girls in ICT” for the 7th consecutive year. The objective is to enhance women’s engagement in the field. In Armenia, our participation rate stands at 40%, higher than the global average, yet there remains ample opportunity for further development,” stated Kristina Hakobyan, Board Vice Chair of the “Internet Society” NGO.
There are vast opportunities for employment in this field, particularly in section for managing domain names, which is currently underway by the “Internet Society” NGO.
“This aspect of the IT sector is relatively unknown to many, yet it presents young individuals with access to the vast global market and its opportunities. They can engage in international work from Armenia,” stated K. Hakobyan.
“In pursuit of leadership in ICT, prioritize higher technical education and the cultivation of practical skills from a young age, even through voluntary work,” emphasized Luiza Avetisyan, co-founder of Staff.am, highlighting the pivotal approach to her success. According to Zhanna Khojoyan, a representative of “Synopsis Armenia” Company, the key to achieving broad perspectives and tangible progress with STEM education is to continuously learn and persevere without giving up.
“Women possess the same capabilities as men in ICT. This field is as vast as the ocean. To succeed, it’s crucial not to fear advancements.” In the world’s leading nations, women’s participation in the ICT field exceeds 20%. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) initiated the international campaign “Girls in ICT” to enhance this metric. Over the past 11 years, annually, 11,400 events have been conducted across 175 countries, drawing participation from over 377,000 women. In Armenia, over the course of 7 years, approximately 340 women from diverse professions and age groups have taken part in these events.
