On June 15-16, 2018, Internet Society NGO and Internet Technologies Center LLC launched a two-day meeting with registrars taking place in Multi Rest House in Tsakhkadzor city. Representatives of all Armenian registrar companies, as well as participants from RA Police and NSS, took part in the inaugural meeting. The outdoor meeting format became an important innovative platform to better get to know each other and to discuss issues concerning the community. The meeting started with a welcome speech by Arman Nersisyan, Director of Internet Society NGO, noting that the key objective of the meeting should be the defining and adoption of the correct and clear ways of dealing with emerging issues. Among the speakers were Anna Karakhanyan, David Karapetyan, Alexandra Kulikova (ICANN, remotely), Hrachya Hakobyan, Yuri Kargapolov (Ukraine) and Aram Orbelyan. Topics covered include web security in Armenia, ICANN and WHOIS, domain name registration policy, Ukrainian experience of domain name disputes, arbitration rules for domain name dispute resolution. The discussions were summed up with confidence to hold such meetings regularly enabling to seek joint solutions to raised issue in a more relaxed and trustworthy atmosphere. To sum up, we look forward to effective work with all registrars and we intend to further deepen cooperation and engagement within the community.

SEEDIG 2018

Internet Society NGO Members Lianna Galstyan and Kristina Hakobyan participated to the SEEDIG 2018 (South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance) meeting taking place on 22-24 May 2018 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia, and was hosted by the Digitas Institute. SEEDIG 2018 was attended by 120 participants from 27 SEE and neighboring countries representing all stakeholder groups.

MENOG 18

Internet Society NGO Board Members Armen Muradyan, Vahan Hovsepyan and ArmSIG student Syuzi Hovhannisyan participated to the MENOG 18 (Middle East Network Operators Group) meeting taking place on 25-26 April in Tehran, Iran. The event was hosted by Asiatech, Internet provider in Iran, and sponsored by RIPE NCC. MENOG 18 was attended by 240 participants from 15 countries from all geographic regions of the world. As a platform for key Internet builders in the region, MENOG provides a great opportunity to network with colleagues, shares experiences and knowledge, presents and discusses the latest networking innovations, and discovers new business models and applications. It is a highly selective meeting attended by experts and other interested people from the Internet industry, academia and government. During the conference, Armenian delegation networked with the specialists from Middle East and foreign attendees, and gained a number of preliminary agreements. The essential step was to discover Iranian market with all its opportunities and launch new business ideas and views there. The delegation had chance to share its experience and be introduced to the business environment of Iran through presentations, meetings, round-table talks and discussions from both sides.

ArmSIG | Cybersecurity in Russia and IG Ecosystem

The topic of April 21 meeting was cyber security, and our special guest was Leonid Todorov, APTLD General Manager. He presented the situation of cyber security in Russia and made comparisons with that of in Armenia. Participants actively inquired about the parallels in both countries, as well as asked questions about the Internet governance ecosystem.

ArmSIG | Human Rights online and offline

Elena Dodonova, the representative from the Council of Europe, delivered a speech on human rights at the Armenian School on Internet Governance. She presented in detail the approaches and guidelines of the Council of Europe on human rights online and offline. The participants had the opportunity to direct their concerns and inquiries to the lecturer through questions and answers.

Girls in ICT

This year, Internet Society NGO for the first time has organized an event dedicated to "Girls in ICT" Day. The objective of the event was to create an environment where the participation and achievements of girls and women in ICT are encouraged. The event was organized in a "Round Table" format, with face-to-face and remote participation of experienced and successful women and young girls using information technologies. Participants with diverse professional skills talked about their activities as well as about how IT helps them achieve success in their work. At the end of the event, the participants highly appreciated the importance of such meetings and expressed their desire to make it regular, promoting the atmosphere of cooperation.

9th Russian Internet Governance Forum

Internet Society NGO Board Members Anna Karakhanyan, Armen Muradyan and Vahan Hovsepyan participated in the 9th Russian Internet Governance Forum, held on April 6 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The forum featured sessions on information security, regional aspects of internet governance, international cooperation and technological innovations. Experts from Russia, China, the US and European countries talked about who should be playing a more active role in global internet governance, and what can be done to engage new stakeholders. The event was hosted by Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and supported by ICANN, ISOC, RIPE NCC, APTLD and The Technical Center of Internet. Cybersecurity partner of the Forum was Kaspersky Lab.
