“Regithon 2022” – striving to lead in domain registration
As of May 2022, Registrar organizations operating in Armenia have registered 39,000 domain names in “.am” zone and more than 1,100 domain names in “.հայ” zone.
The indicators were presented and the issues of the sphere were discussed in “Regithon 2022” held on May 14, 2022 organized annually by the “Internet Technologies Center”.
As a commercial and technical operator of .am/․հայ ccTLD Registry, the Internet Technologies Center (ITC) presented the developments in the industry, and the steps taken in terms of Internet and server maintenance to Registrar organizations in Armenia.
According to Igor Mkrtumyan, Board Chair of the Internet Society NGO, over the past year AMNIC servers have been upgraded.
On June 10 2021, Regithon meeting was held, where the Registrars’ representatives were introduced to the "հայ"-Net contest, organized within the framework of the events on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the IDN"․հայ" domain as well as the details of the contest specifically for Registrars.
Round Table Discussion on development of "․հայ” IDN TLD
Within the framework of the 5th anniversary of "․հայ" ccTLD the "Internet Society" NGO organized a Round Table Discussion with representatives of all stakeholder groups:
the Ministry of High-Tech Industry,
the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports,
the Office of the Diaspora Commission,
the Language Committee,
"Young Programmers" NGO,
as well as representatives of a number of Registrars.
"Internet Society" NGO AMNIC administrator Anna Karakhanyan and Head of the Staff Kristina Hakobyan had presentations on IDN "․հայ" and its updates and ICANN GAC perspectives on IDN.
Maria Kolesnikova from Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ spoke about the IDNs, Universal Acceptance and represented the work of the regional UA group. Lianna Galstyan, "Internet Society" NGO ER Manager, moderated the discussion. As a result, new collaboration and a roadmap for continuous work were established among the participating organizations.
ENOG 18 meeting took place on 7-8 June 2021 in a hybrid format, by organizing Remote Broadcast Hubs in different countries.
“Internet Society" NGO, in partnership with the Union of Operators of Armenia, hosted a Remote Broadcast Hub with a face-to-face meeting in Yerevan, during which participants had the opportunity to follow ENOG 18 online, hold on-site discussions on a common approach to Internet development and Internet sustainability.
At the end of the two-day meeting, Yerevan Remote Broadcast Hub registered an excellent participation rate in terms of the number of registered and present participants.

5th anniversary of "․հայ"
On 5 May 2021, "Internet Society" NGO celebrates the 5th anniversary of "․հայ" IDN ccTLD. A press conference was convened on that occasion, where Lianna Galstyan, in her role as the External Relations Manager of "Internet Society" NGO presented the programs implemented during these years and the 5 events planned for the current year. Albert Toneyan, Vice-Chair of the "Internet Society" NGO participated in his role of the Advisor to the High-tech Minister and Susanna Mkrtchyan, the President of the Wikimedia Armenia Scientific-Educational NGO was also the speaker at the press conference.
The events for the 5th anniversary planned throughout the year:
1. A "Round Table" discussion with the participation of all stakeholders to identify the challenges of the adoption and use of the “․հայ” domain, as well as to develop a roadmap for its advancement.2. A contest campaign for the development of Armenian topics, organized jointly with "Wikimedia Armenia" Scientific-Educational NGO, the aim of which is to create and update topics related to the Armenian history, culture and science in the Armenian Wikipedia. Thanks to the participants of this campaign, it would be possible to present our history and culture in all its diversity, to inherit it to future generations in a true way.3. A competition for the best "․հայ" websites in 3 nominations: "Best Design", "Best Armenian Content", "Best User-friendly Website and Application". A special committee will be invited to evaluate the nominations.4. A Competition for the Registrars for the highest number of registrations under the “․հայ” domain.5. A Competition with the participation of the students from the "Innovation Ethnic Regional Center" for the best video promoting "․հայ" domain names.
Girls in ICT 2021
This year the International “Girls in ICT” Day was celebrated on 22 April 2021 under the theme “Connected Girls, Creating Brighter Futures”.
It’s been four years since the “Internet Society” NGO, in cooperation with the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” NGO, jointly organized an event, Girls in ICT, initiated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
This year's event took place online under the title "Job Opportunities for Women in ICT Market of Armenia".
The guest speakers of the meeting were:
- Kristina Babajanyan ("Soft Construct" LLC, CTO Assistant),- Anzhela Sargsyan ("Team" LLC, UI/UX designer)- Mher Markosyan (Yerevan Telecommunication Research Institute, Director).
During the meeting, the opportunities and requirements of the ICT job market in Armenia and aspects of education for women were discussed. All participants were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and to share their views on the topics under discussion.
Within the framework of Regithon Annual Event, on December 23, 2020 the "Internet Technology Center" LLC held the last working meeting with the Registrars, thus concluding the Regithon 2020 discussions.
The meeting was held in an online format. AMNIC Administrator Anna Karakhanyan presented the growth rate of domain name registration during the pandemic and the war situation in the country. Besides, various operational issues were also discussed.
The participants joined were the ITC staff and the following Registrars: ABCDomain LLC, Global AM LLC, RegNest LLC, NAME.․AM LLC, Betanet LLC, Arpinet LLC, MENQ Advisory Legal Center LLC
The 4-day free course of the 4th edition of ArmSIG - the Armenian School on Internet Governance, started on 14 September 2020.
It was held as a hybrid event: online participants joined through ZOOM platform.
The topics covered during the course were Internet ecosystem, Domain Names, in particular “.am”/”.հայ” ccTLDs, Registry/Registrar activities, Security and Privacy, Digital Literacy and Human Rights as well as other significant topics relevant to Internet governance.
The features of ArmSIG4 are:
a. hybrid (online & onsite) meeting,
b. participants from rural areas of Armenia for the 1st time,
c. majority of Academy stakeholder group participants,
d. majority of female participants.

".am" celebrates its 26th anniversary
"Internet Society" NGO on 26 August celebrates the founding day of the “.am” ccTLD.
Before the launch of ".am", websites in Armenia were registered in ".com", ".org", ".net" gTLDs. In 1994, thanks to the efforts of dedicated enthusiasts inspired by innovative ideas, the ".am" ccTLD was launched in Armenia.
On its 26th anniversary, there are 37807 registered domain names in the ".am" zone, 56% of which are registered in Armenia.
"Internet Society" NGO congratulates everyone on the sustainable and effective work as well as on development of the ".am" ccTLD during 26 years.
