ICANN68 Policy Forum

ICANN68 Policy Forum, initially scheduled to take place in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, took place as a virtual meeting on 22-25 June, 2020. June 22-25, held during regular working hours in Kuala Lumpur (UTC+8).

ICANN68 Policy Forum was attended by about 1000 specialists from 150 countries of the world, including many members of the “Internet Society” NGO.

The conference had 50 sessions. A lot of discussions tackled the challenges of advancing the ICANN community’s policy work during the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition, there were discussions on topics relevant to the domain community: the problem of registering potentially dangerous domain names associated with COVID-19; implementation of DNSSEC; new opportunities and risks for DNS with the increase of IoT usage; support for IDNs, etc.

EuroDIG 2020

EuroDIG 2020 was held online under the overarching theme “Towards a sustainable governance of the Internet”. 

Within the framework of EuroDIG 2020, Lianna Galstyan, “Internet Society” NGO External Relations manager organized a workshop on "Universal Acceptance: a technical or a cultural issue". 

The Agenda of the workshop comprised the following topics: 

- Brief introduction to Universal Acceptance

- Technical aspects: Progress, Unsolved issues, Success stories

- Cultural aspects: Multilingual Internet, Local identity

- Stakeholders engagement: Roles, Responsibilities 

- Q&A and Wrap-up.

CENTR Jamboree

CENTR Jamboree 2020 was held online for the first time this year on 25-27 May 2020.

Over the course of 3 days, more than 300 experts from ccTLD registries exchanged new ideas in seminars on security, technical, marketing and legal issues.

“Internet Society” NGO Board member Anna Karakhanyan took part in the round table and made a presentation.

EAI Implementation Workshop

Coordination Center of .RU/.РФ organized an online workshop on implementation of E-mail Address Internationalization (EAI). The following questions were discussed: - Main aspects of the IDN electronic post - What is EAI, IDN, and Universal Acceptance - How to setup Postfix and Courier for EAI - Technical aspects of the IDN post

“Internet Society” NGO members took part in this online course.

RIPE 80

Planned to be held in Berlin from 11-15 May, RIPE 80 meeting was announced to be virtual due to concerns over COVID-19. Usually five-day events, the virtual meeting was decided to make a three-day event.

The meeting kick started with the Newcomers Introduction session and later on it covered a range of particularly important issues for the Internet community. The RIPE Working Groups also had an opportunity at the sessions to update on the progress of their work.

APRICOT2020, DotAsia AGM, APTLD77

On 12-21 February 2020, Internet Society NGO External Relations Manager Lianna Galstyan participated in APRICOT2020, DotAsia Board of Directors and Annual Meeting, as well as APTLD77 meetings taking place in Melbourne, Australia.

Members of the organization Armen Muradyan and Tsovinar Grigoryan were also present at the APTLD77 meeting. On these meetings Ms. Galstyan made a presentation on .am/.հայ domain names market overview, marketing strategy and the work done.

IGF 2020 First Open Consultations and MAG meeting

On 14-16 January 2020 the first Open Consultations and MAG meeting took place in Geneva, Switzerland. Internet Society NGO External Relations Manager Lianna Galstyan participated to this meeting in her role as a MAG member.

The meeting was planned to receive inputs from the community and stocktaking of the IGF 2019 and to discuss the process and upcoming work towards the IGF 2020 to be held in Katowice, Poland.

IGF 2019 | One World. One Net. One Vision.

The 14th Annual Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2019) took place in Berlin, Germany, from 25 to 29 November 2019.At the opening ceremony of IGF2019 the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres and Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany delivered welcome speeches. During the course of five days of IGF2019, 3,679 delegates participated in-person in 200 sessions. Berlin welcomed participants from 161 different countries. 53% of these were the first-time comers. Approximately 3,000 people participated online. The IGF 2019 program featured 10 main thematic sessions; 64 workshops; 36 open forums; 4 best practice forum (BPF) sessions; 14 dynamic coalition (DC) sessions; 6 national, regional, and youth (NRIs) collaborative sessions; 16 sessions classified as “other”; 6 introductory & concluding sessions; as well as a dedicated track for legislators, for a total of 200 sessions in the overall program. The reduced number of sessions in the program compared to previous years is the result of the MAG’s new ‘program shaping approach’, which aimed at having more concrete, focused discussions, and fewer parallel or duplicate sessions, with a clear thematic orientation to three key themes.

Belarus IGF
